Cross Plate Earth Anchor | Drilled Hole Guy Anchor | Yokelink

The Yokelink Cross Plate Anchor is designed for heavy-duty overhead line guying where extreme pull-out resistance is required. Installed in a pre-augered hole, this anchor utilizes a massive surface area to distribute tension loads against the undisturbed soil column above it.

Structural Integrity with No Moving Parts:
Formed from two heavy-gauge structural steel plates, the cross design provides exceptional rigidity and strength without relying on mechanical expansion or moving parts. A specially designed diagonal slot allows a forged anchor rod to be easily slipped into place, locking securely at the center of the cross. This ensures the guy load is pulled directly against the center of the anchor's vast bearing surface.

To stand highly corrosive underground environments, Yokelink Cross Plate Anchors are coated with rust-inhibiting asphalt paint or fully Hot Dip Galvanized to ASTM A153.

Key Technical Features of Cross Plate Earth Anchor

Design: Crossed steel plates provide a massive bearing surface area.

Reliability: Solid construction with zero moving parts to fail underground.

Assembly: Built-in diagonal rod slot for quick, secure attachment of the anchor rod.

Installation: Designed for installation in standard 16", 20", or 24" augered holes.

Coating: Asphalt painted or Hot Dip Galvanized for long-term durability.

Production Process of Cross Plate Earth Anchor

Cross plate earth anchors are fabricated from high‑strength steel plate and steel rod.
Cutting & Forming: Steel plate is cut and pressed into cross‑shaped bearing plates.
Welding: The cross plate is firmly welded to the central anchor rod to ensure strong integrity.
Straightening & Threading: The rod is straightened, and threads are rolled at the end.
Surface Treatment: The whole assembly is hot‑dip galvanized per ASTM A153 for corrosion protection.

Yokelink Quality Control and Testing Equipments

We don't just reference standards; we also verify them in practice: each batch of products undergoes destructive tensile testing in our internal laboratory to ensure load performance exceeds the minimum requirements of IEEE C135.2 or CSA specification; we use optical comparators to ensure the geometric accuracy of chamfered tips and rolled threads, enabling convenient on-site installation; at the same time, we conduct comprehensive testing on Rockwell hardness, coating thickness, and other parameters, and each shipment is accompanied by the original manufacturer's material specifications (MTRs) and quality inspection reports, with all data traceable back to the raw material furnace number.

The Application of Cross Plate Earth Anchor

Cross plate earth anchors are widely used in overhead transmission and distribution lines for underground guy anchoring and pole stability systems. They provide high pull‑out resistance in soil by means of the large cross bearing plate, ensuring firm and stable fixation for guy wires and poles. Hot‑dip galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153, they feature excellent corrosion resistance for long‑term outdoor service. Compliant with IEEE C135.1 and ANSI C135.90 standards, they are reliable, durable and suitable for various soil conditions in power line projects.

    Yokelink Product Quality Inspection Report

We provide comprehensive inspection services for machine bolts, including SGS test bolts and formal Production Part Inspect Report (PPIR). The SGS tests verify the bolts’ compliance with international standards like ASTM A307 and IEEE C135.80, covering mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The PPIR details all inspection items, ensuring each machine bolt meets dimensional, performance and quality requirements, providing reliable quality assurance for overhead line and industrial applications.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the main advantage of a Cross Plate Anchor over an Expanding Anchor?

A: The primary advantage is reliability under extreme loads. A Cross Plate Anchor has no moving parts, eliminating the risk of blades failing to expand properly in difficult soils. It relies purely on its massive, fixed surface area (up to 400 square inches) to distribute the tension load against the tamped earth, offering exceptional and predictable holding capacity.

Q2: How do you attach the anchor rod to a Cross Plate Anchor?

A: The cross plate features a diagonal slot cut into the steel. During installation, you simply thread a nut onto the bottom of a drop-forged Anchor Rod, slide the rod through the diagonal slot, and position the nut squarely in the center recess under the plates. Once tension is applied, it locks firmly in place.

Q3: How is a Cross Plate Anchor installed in the ground?

A: A large-diameter hole (e.g., 16", 20", or 24") is augered into the ground at the angle of the guy wire. An angled slot is also cut into the side of the hole for the anchor rod to lay in. The assembled anchor and rod are lowered to the bottom of the hole. Finally, the hole is carefully backfilled and mechanically tamped in layers to restore the soil's density above the anchor plates.

Q4: What type of soil is best suited for a Cross Plate Anchor?

A: Cross plate anchors perform exceptionally well in poor, loose, or swampy soils (such as Soil Classes 6 and 7) where standard expanding anchors might fail to expand properly or lack firm earth to bite into. Because the cross plate relies on its massive, fixed surface area and the weight of the thoroughly tamped backfill above it, it guarantees reliable holding capacity even in less-than-ideal ground conditions.

Q5: Should I choose Asphalt Painted or Hot Dip Galvanized (HDG) cross plate anchors?

A: It depends on the soil corrosivity and the expected lifespan of the utility line. A heavy asphalt paint coating is the standard industry practice, providing excellent rust inhibition for most normal soil conditions at a highly cost-effective price. However, if the anchor is being installed in highly aggressive, acidic, alkaline, or coastal soils, choosing Hot Dip Galvanized (HDG) per ASTM A153 provides the ultimate, long-term sacrificial corrosion protection to ensure decades of structural integrity underground.
